Two hundred miles inland from the northern coast of Brazil, there are several thousand miles of highland desert called the Sertao.
This plateau, high above the fertile coastal regions has, for several centuries been home to some of the poorest people on earth, descendants of runaway slaves, dis-enfranchised native Indians, outlaws and explorers.
Even today, because of the periodic intense droughts, it remains one of the poorest regions on earth and one of the least evangelized in Brazil.
God is calling for revival in the Sertao, it is time for something new. The team will be heading there in October for a survey trip. On the trip our local contacts will work with our team to plan a trip in 2011 to install underground water cisterns that will catch rainfall from rooftops in a village and channel it through pipes to the cistern. The cistern will contain a u.v. treatment system that will be solar powered. These cisterns contain 1000 gallons of water.
